Dynamic Asset Level Investing (DALI) Tool

The NASDAQ Dorsey Wright’s DALI is designed to catch the long-term trends of both the market and strong asset classes.

The Dynamic Asset Level Investing (DALI) Tool applies relative strength analysis across the six major asset classes (U.S. equities, international equities, commodities, global currencies, fixed income, and cash) to identify leadership and guide tactical asset allocation.

It is a historical fact that asset classes go through bull and bear markets. Rather than take a passive approach to asset class exposure, DALI can help you tactically allocate among these asset classes.

DALI ranks six asset classes from strongest to weakest, giving you the ability to over-weigh the strong asset classes and to under-weigh the weak asset classes in your portfolio.

Asset classes are ranked from strongest to weakest, with an emphasis towards overweighting asset classes that hold the top spots in DALI, and underweighting or avoiding asset classes that fall to the bottom. DALI can also be used to analyze strength within each asset class using the sub-sector and sub-asset class rankings.

You can also use DALI to create a turnkey strategy. The highest ranked asset class should receive max allocation, while the weakest asset classes should receive minimum allocations.

How we came to Dorsey

Alison’s father passed away at a young age. At the time, her mother had no idea how to manage investments, and Alison didn’t either. Since both women lacked experience in the world of personal finance, Alison figured -correctly- that many people would be in the same position. She signed on with Shearson (predecessor of today’s Morgan Stanley) and proceeded to learn about investing.

With a combined 45 years of experience at Sage, we’ve been through multiple market scenarios. Early on came Black Friday October 19, 1987. The Dow lost about 20% in one day! Although stocks proved vulnerable then, Fed tightening in 1994 showed that “steady” bond funds could lose value as well. The Tech Wreck of 2000 brought on a different scenario in which to invest.

Through these different market roller coasters, we explored and researched various investment processes which eventually led us to Dorsey Wright. In Dorsey’s Point and Figure and Relative Strength process we found accountability, reliability, and repeatability. Since implementing the Dorsey process, we haven’t looked back.
